How to NOT Lose Motivation after 5 Days of Working Out

Did you hit the snooze button on your 7.00 AM alarm again today? Has all that last night motivation to hit the gym early and stay fit disappeared like smoke in the air? You must be familiar with all the perks of exercising regularly. It’s not only good for your body, but it’s also beneficial for your brain.

Why, then, is it so difficult to get out of your bed daily to exercise? Around 40 % of South Africans don’t exercise regularly, putting them at risk of multiple diseases. For help, take inspiration from my story.

Fortunately, researchers and health experts are trying their best to keep people motivated for working out daily. Keep yourself motivated to work out with these proven strategies:

1.  Goal-Setting:

A goal-oriented approach is always helpful in whatever you are aiming for, be it a workout project or building a business. One step at a time strategy never fails to give desired results. Set short-term and long-term exercise objectives and stick to those objectives. Work out according to your goal set and get the results you desire. This will not only help you in determining your goals but will also help you to keep track of your progress.

2.  Be Competitive:

A little competition never hurts anybody. Do you remember how you used to compete in studies with your school friends and ended up with decent grades? The same rule applies to working out. Set competition. See your gym buddies who work out on a daily basis as your competition. Compare your progress with theirs and get that athletic body you dream of.

3.  Journal It:

Yes, you read it right! Journaling your workout routine can help you stay motivated.  Keep track of everything from where you work out to when you work out. Track and evaluate your progress. See how far you have come and how long you have to keep going to achieve your desired results. Even if you exercised for only 10 minutes, pen it down. This will remind you that you need to make more progress or you’re already close to your goal.

4.  Be Social:

Of course, you don’t want to get bored. Therefore, to make your workout journey enjoyable, take your friends with you on this journey. Having a friend’s company during your workout can make your workout less boring, and you may end up spending more time exercising because you don’t want to leave your friends alone. This will help you get up early daily because you surely don’t want your friends to have fun at the gym without you. This way, you can enjoy working out and get that Olympic athlete dream body.

As a former Olympic athlete, I have incorporated all these strategies into my workout routine to get myself moving. All my hard work and dedication in following these strategies paid off when I became Ghana’s first skeleton Olympic athlete, and I haven’t stopped since then. The road to representing Africans in Winter Olympics is tough and tiring, but it’s worth all the effort. I strongly believe that if I can do it, you can too.
