October gives me something I value as both an entrepreneur and a skeleton athlete: a chance to pause, look at the bigger picture, and decide what needs to change before I push forward. The fourth quarter can move quickly, especially when unfinished goals, financial decisions, relationships, and daily responsibilities start competing for attention. That is why I see an October reset as more than a planning exercise. It is a moment to ask questions, get honest about where my business stands, and where I want to take it next.
What Actually Matters Before the Year Ends?
My first step in an October reset is looking at my priorities. I ask myself which goals still matter, which ones have become distractions, and which commitments I need to finish before the year closes. I do not want to carry unfinished work into another year simply because I started it months ago. I also look at what has actually produced results rather than relying on assumptions. Business planning works better when I compare expectations with what really happened and adjust when necessary.
Am I Paying Enough Attention to the Numbers?
An October reset also means sitting down with the numbers. I review revenue, expenses, cash flow, upcoming obligations, and the costs connected to my plans for the final months of the year. As an entrepreneur, I have learned that being busy does not automatically mean being financially healthy. Cash flow deserves attention because money can be tied up in inventory, unpaid invoices, or expenses even when a business looks profitable on paper.
What Needs to Change Before I Move Forward?
I also look beyond goals and finances. Are my systems helping me or slowing me down? Are the right relationships getting my attention? Is there a task I keep postponing because I have not made a clear decision? My experience as a skeleton athlete has taught me that progress often comes from making small adjustments before the next major push. I bring that same mindset into business. An October reset gives me room to simplify, finish what matters, strengthen important relationships, and enter the final quarter with a clearer sense of direction.

As a skeleton athlete and entrepreneur, I use my journey to motivate and guide other entrepreneurs who are working to turn their ideas into something meaningful. That same belief drives Hope Of A Billion, which my wife and I founded to help children from underserved communities around the world realize their potential and grow into future leaders through our programs. I’m honored that our work has been featured on the Olympics’ official Instagram alongside legends and icons including Simone Biles, Usain Bolt, Magic Johnson, Billie Jean King, Carlos Alcaraz, and others.
If your October reset reminds you that opportunity should be shared, please donate now. Visit the Hope Of A Billion website to see how we are helping young people discover their potential and build a brighter future.
