Growing up, I did not have much. There were days when basic things that many people take for granted felt out of reach. But looking back, I realize that having very little taught me something powerful. It taught me to dream anyway. It taught me to keep moving forward even when the path seemed impossible. Most importantly, it taught me that your starting point does not determine your destination. That belief is at the heart of the work I do today and why I care so deeply about creating hope for children from underserved communities around the world.
Hope Begins Before Circumstances Change
When people think about hope, they often picture a better future after everything improves. My experience was different. Hope started long before my circumstances changed. It showed up when I decided to believe that my life could become something more.
As a young person, I did not know I would one day compete as a skeleton athlete on the world stage. I certainly did not know I would become an entrepreneur, philanthropist, and founder of an organization dedicated to creating hope for children from underserved communities. What I did know was that I could not allow my current situation to define what was possible.
That is a lesson every child deserves to hear. Challenges are real, but they are not permanent. Opportunity often starts with believing that a different future is possible.
The Power of Seeing Someone Who Believes in You
Many children living in difficult circumstances are surrounded by messages that tell them what they cannot do. That is why encouragement matters so much. One supportive mentor, teacher, coach, or family member can completely change a child’s outlook.
I have seen firsthand how hope for children from underserved communities grows when young people are given resources, guidance, and positive examples. When children see someone who believes in them, they begin believing in themselves. Confidence grows. Goals become clearer. Dreams feel attainable.
The mission behind Hope Of A Billion is rooted in helping young people discover that potential and giving them tools to pursue it.
Your Future Is Bigger Than Your Beginning
Today, people know me as a skeleton athlete, entrepreneur, and advocate for young people. But none of those achievements were visible when I was growing up with very little. My story is proof that difficult beginnings do not have to limit what comes next.
That is why I continue working to create hope for children from underserved communities. Every child deserves the chance to dream, learn, grow, and lead. Their background may shape part of their story, but it should never determine how far they can go.

I founded Hope Of A Billion with my wife because we believe every child deserves the opportunity to discover their gifts, pursue their dreams, and become a future leader. Through our programs, we work to create lasting hope for children from underserved communities by providing motivation, support, and opportunities that help young people unlock their full potential worldwide.
As a former Olympian and skeleton athlete, I am especially honored that our work was featured on the Olympics’ official Instagram page alongside inspiring icons such as Simone Biles, Usain Bolt, Magic Johnson, Billie Jean King, Carlos Alcaraz, and many others.
Please donate today to help children grow into confident leaders, pursue meaningful goals, and create brighter futures for themselves and their communities.
