The Key to Becoming an Olympian—Daily Discipline

Many people wonder how athletes cope with their daily routine and develop the resilience to carry on with the same repetitive routine every day. The answer is simple: daily discipline. One of the greatest factors behind an athlete’s success is their ability to stick to their habits and routines. Now you might be wondering, “what is daily discipline?”

To keep it simple and short, daily discipline is the ability to carry on with the same routine at the same time every day, no matter how tired or exhausted you might be. As easy as it might seem, this also includes the urge to fight hitting the snooze alarm when you feel like staying in a little longer. And with time, you can develop this discipline. Here’s how to do it.

Set Big Goals

You can only strive to achieve bigger goals when you set higher expectations. But how do you do that? By setting bigger goals. Only when you set bigger goals will you dedicate yourself to the end goal. Because the more time you spend doing something, the more difficult it gets to quit it. And once you ace a task, it becomes easy for you.

Hence, the bigger your goal, the more invested you’ll be.

Keep Your Goals Clear

Don’t just aim for anything; analyze what you’re talking about and set clear goals that you can work toward. For example, “I’ll be the best businessman.” Well, what industry are you targeting? How do you plan on doing it? These are some important questions you must ask yourself beforehand.

Likewise, if you set a goal to become healthier, how do you plan to do that? Will you exercise every day? For how long and at what time? Will you refine your eating habits?

Stick to the Plan

How do you think I managed to reach the Olympics? I valued every part of my training equally, not thinking about how one was more important than the other. If my plan for the day said five rounds of 400 m sprints, I did it, no questions asked. The same is the logic with every other thing in your life.

Once you start the process, don’t question it, don’t hesitate, and never back out. Instead, work hard every day until you reach your goal.

Adopt the ‘No-Matter’ Mindset

One of the biggest motivations behind my success is the “no-matter” mindset. This mindset simply pushes you to keep moving forward, no matter what. When you start thinking with this mindset, no matter what hurdle is thrown your way, you’ll find a way to make it work.

Once you start believing in this mindset, nothing in life will weigh you down; everything will turn into a small hurdle that you can easily overcome.
