Obstacles are a part of every journey. They give you the confidence and chance to get back up on your feet and work harder than you were before. However, not everyone has the skill to persevere through obstacles and make it out successfully. Failure doesn’t always have to be a bad thing. It’s all about how you act in the face of failure and find your way back.

This is what I, Akwasi Frimpong, did when I was preparing to become Ghana’s first skeleton Olympian, and I finally achieved my dream in 2018. I have prepared this post today to help you overcome obstacles and push past your limits.

Don’t Be Afraid

Overcoming obstacles with perseverance isn’t for the faint of heart. It takes a lot of dedication and courage to push yourself and not think about what other people are saying about you when you fail. The first thing you need to do is be brave and not panic. If you do that, you’re setting yourself up for failure.

Getting afraid and panicking is the wrong reaction to failure. It’s disruptive and will make it harder to do damage control.

Take Action

Just thinking or saying you’ll do this and that isn’t enough. When you encounter an obstacle, there’s no time for plain talk. You need to make changes with actions. That’s the only way you’ll get results. If you keep feeling sorry for yourself and think that someone else will come to solve your problem, you’re wrong. You’re the only person who can help you.

Ask for Help

There’s no shame in asking for help when you face a challenge. Asking for help doesn’t make you weak. Instead, it shows that you’re confident enough to let other people in and help you out. Support and words of confidence from your closest people can help you like nothing else.

Pushing past your limits can completely change your life for the better as it did for me. I wish to share my story and passion for growth with the world of how I became Ghana’s first skeleton Olympian so others can leverage the power of their perseverance.
