Dear Kids,

I understand the unique challenges you face growing up in underserved communities. I’ve walked a similar path, and I want to share my journey with you—not as a distant success story, but as someone who believes in your potential and wants to see you thrive.

Embracing Fear as a Catalyst

Fear is natural. When I first encountered the skeleton track, the speed and uncertainty were daunting. But I learned to view fear differently. Instead of letting it paralyze me, I used it as fuel to push beyond my comfort zone. By embracing fear, I transformed it into a powerful motivator. Remember, it’s okay to be afraid; what’s important is not letting that fear hold you back.

The Power of Persistence

My journey to becoming Ghana’s first skeleton Olympian was filled with setbacks. There were times when giving up seemed like the easier path. But I realized that persistence is key. Each failure taught me something valuable and brought me closer to my goal. Your dreams are worth fighting for, no matter how many obstacles you encounter. Keep pushing forward, and don’t let temporary setbacks define your path.

Building Confidence Through Self-Belief

Self-doubt can be a formidable barrier. I faced moments where I questioned my abilities and worthiness. Over time, I discovered that building confidence starts with self-belief. Surround yourself with positive influences, set small achievable goals, and celebrate your progress. Confidence isn’t about never doubting; it’s about not letting those doubts stop you.

The Importance of Community and Mentorship

I didn’t achieve my dreams alone. Mentors, coaches, and supportive communities played a significant role in my journey. That’s why my wife Erica and I founded the Hope Of A Billion (HOAB) Foundation. We aim to empower young individuals like you through sports, education, and mentorship. Recently, we partnered with the Swiss Embassy to host workshops, providing students with opportunities to learn and grow. Seek out mentors and communities that uplift you; they can provide guidance and open doors you might not have imagined.

Taking the First Step

Dreaming big is essential, but action is what turns dreams into reality. Start with what you have and where you are. When I began my athletic journey, resources were scarce, but I used every opportunity to train and improve. Identify your passion, set clear goals, and take consistent steps toward them. No action is too small, and each step brings you closer to your aspirations.
