Failure can be demotivating but no one ever wins the first time around. The trail to success is always going to be lined with obstacles. The ones that make it to the end aren’t fazed by a few hurdles, they keep their head in the game at all times, until their dreams finally turn into a reality!
Struggling to keep going?
Here are some tips on not giving up:
Don’t Make Quitting An Option
The people that refuse to take no for an answer, don’t consider quitting an option. When you adopt a “no quitting mindset”, you do everything in your power to turn your dream into a reality. You have greater focus, you’re willing to put in more work and when things get tough, you find it within yourself to keep going.
Don’t want to give up? Tell yourself that you can’t!
Success is contagious! When you see someone else persevere despite all odds, you feed off their energy and use it as motivation.
Think of others who have had similar experiences and found success even when the chances seemed slim. Read up on their stories and take inspiration from their work ethic, their attitude. Try to emulate their behavior and adopt their mindset.
Somewhere in the back of your mind you’ll see that if they can do it, you can too! You just have to put your mind to it!
Without a purpose, we’re directionless. Oftentimes we get so caught up with our failures we lose sight of the biggest picture.
Think of why you wanted to achieve these goals in the first place. What was it that you wanted to accomplish? What hardships did you want to leave behind? What doors will success open for you?
The answers to all these questions gives you purpose and the direction you need to keep pursuing your dreams even when things get rough.
Check Your Progress
Look at how far you’ve come. No one wins big right away, it takes one step at a time to get closer to your goal before you finally win big!
Each time you meet a milestone, use it to fuel your passion and remind yourself of all the progress you’ve made. With each milestone, the finish line becomes that much closer.
As an Olympian, I know all about overcoming failures. My journey from an illegal immigrant to a celebrated athlete in the Netherlands and Ghana came with its ups and downs but I was never one to back down. Despite injuring his ankle, I continued to look for inspiration and a reason to keep going. From sports to academics, I am proof that you can accomplish anything when you put your mind to it.
I am now preparing to win gold in the upcoming Beijing Winter Olympics in 2022 as a skeleton racer.
