Can mindset affect reality? It’s the driving force behind your life. While you may have felt hopeless during your lowest points, remember that it’s the winning mindset that pulls you back up. As Ghana’s first Skeleton Olympian. I’ve never let setbacks stop me from pursuing my dreams.
I believe that your mindset is not just how you see the world but also how you see yourself; it builds ideology and opinion. Read on to learn more about how changing your mindset can change everything about you, even your surroundings.
1. Your Mindset Affects How You Feel
I believe your mindset affects how you see yourself and, more significantly, how you feel about yourself. Nervousness and anxiety are normal human emotions, but a ‘fixed’ mindset—believing you will inherently make mistakes—can affect your self-esteem and, in turn, stop you from taking steps toward the success you deserve.
In my experience, someone with a winning mindset will be strong-willed to reach their goals and take criticism and setbacks positively. If you feel good about yourself, you’ll know you’re a winner.
2. Your Mindset Makes You Stronger
It might seem superficial, but my experience says that both your spiritual and even physical strength depend on your mindset. Becoming an Olympic-level athlete wasn’t easy—I powered through immense criticism and ran numerous races before I could even think about making my dream of representing Ghana at the Olympics a reality. But all it did was make me stronger.
A winning mindset is what keeps you encouraged to keep practicing until you reach your goal. This practice makes you physically stronger and healthier, and each step pushes you closer to the goal. The end result is a stronger, more positive you.
3. Your Mindset Affects Your Relationships
You can’t control how others behave, but you can change how you react. An empathetic mindset can induce positivity in a relationship even when the situation is going south.
For example, you can put yourself in your loved one’s shoes and try to resolve the situation with the end goal of growth rather than a fixation on criticism. This approach is similar to the winning mindset and hence can be applied to all spheres of life.
A positive, winning mindset can completely change your life for the better. It did the same for me, Akwasi Frimpong, when I became Ghana‘s first Skeleton Olympic in 2018. I wish to share my story and passion for growth with the world so others with a dream can start changing their mindset.
