What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear ‘Africa?’ Poverty, illiteracy, and poor health? Well, that’s how most Westerners perceive Africa to be. The world looks down upon Africans as if they’re a less human race.
But Africa and its people are as great humans as people of any other continent, and they deserve a better life like everyone else. I became Ghana’s first skeleton athlete and represented Africa on a global scale which has illuminated a ray of hope that the world will start viewing Africa in a new light.
I, Akwasi Frimpong, Africa’s First Black Male Skeleton Athlete, have shown the world that Africans can achieve big things, too. After struggling for over a decade to finally achieve what I dreamt of, I’m now helping the underprivileged children of my country to break their shells and step out into the grandness of this world through my foundation, Hope of a Billion.
This blog post highlights how Hope of a Billion is helping underserved children reach for the stars.
Hope of a Billion – Helping Billions Reach the Stars
I founded Hope of a Billion with my wife in 2022. We realized that my journey of becoming the first black athlete from Africa profoundly impacted people in Africa. My journey instilled hope in Africans and other underprivileged communities around the world that they can do better and that their present doesn’t have to define their entire futures.
The goal of Hope of a Bullion is to encourage, engage, and empower as many as a billion lives of underprivileged and underserved communities around the world through educational, sports, and business opportunities. With a firm belief that hard work, determination, and resilience can make anything possible, we, the Frimpongs, continue to serve deserving communities with all our might.
Hope of a Billion conducts classroom resilience lessons and hands-on activities for children to help them discover themselves and give them a chance to live the life they dream, the life of a teacher, lawyer, musician, entrepreneur, or CEO. Through these programs, I hope to instill in these children a fire of never giving up, just like me.

How Can You Help?
So far, Hope of a Billion has impacted 1,725 children. You can help the foundation impact more lives through your contributions. A contribution as small as $25 counts. Your $25 helps build one wooden skeleton that allows a child to learn a new sport and provides five copies of Hope of a Billion graphic novel for an African classroom. No contribution is too small. It’s the small steps toward betterment that count. So, play your part and help us to make this world a better place for everyone!
