How to Prepare Yourself for the Big Game

The recipe for winning the big game lies in its preparation. You must develop winning as a habit. Only then can you physically and mentally prepare yourself to succeed.

Whether the big game is as glorious as the Olympics or a final competition at your school, it’s the competitive spirit that makes athletics a part of life, which teaches how to face a challenge. Here are some tips to help you prepare for the big game.

Visualization

An athlete with a vivid imagination is the one who can succeed. You must visualize your future performance a night before the game. Think about the pass you’ll deliver, the shot you’ll take, or the defense you’ll play. Visualizing the sport and acting upon that visualization can take the stress off your mind and make you feel headstrong.

Sleep

Sleep is an essential element of your day. It allows you to recuperate and align your energies. Therefore, you must take around seven to eight hours of sleep before the game so that your body has had enough time to rest.

Diet

Whatever you consume within the 24 hours before your game will have an impact on your performance at the big game. Carbs are important as they’ll offer you long-lasting energy to get you through your endurance sport. You must, however, stay away from fried and fatty foods and large meals as they will take time to digest fully, and you can’t afford to feel bloated during the game.

Routine

All the successful and well-known athletes worldwide have a routine that they carry out before their big game. While it doesn’t have to be something ritualistic, it can comprise some activities that can get your mind off distractions and put you in the zone of winning.

Coaching

Lastly, your coach can give you the last push that you need to perform confidently and succeed. A good coach can motivate you and give you that extra push that you may need to elevate your performance and have insight into the winning strategy.

As an Olympian and a former athlete, I have strictly followed all these tips. I believe that it’s time that I share my success recipe with you all so that you can take these steps and master your athletic potential to win every game you participate in.

I found my passion in skeleton racing, and I invested my time, blood, and sweat into succeeding in it. I became Ghana’s first skeleton Olympic champion, an athlete, and a motivational speaker. I’m Akwasi Frimpong, and here’s my story.
