As a young boy in Ghana, I had big dreams but no clear path. What changed everything was learning to speak up—to ask for help and believe I belonged. Empowering youth begins with showing them that their voice matters.
Today, as Ghana’s first skeleton athlete, my mission is to help youth from underserved communities stand tall. Whether they dream of Olympic tracks or simply passing an exam, advocacy is the key.
Listen Before You Lead
You can’t empower youth without hearing them first. Early on, I felt invisible in sports—until someone truly listened. Ask real questions. Let them speak. When young people know their voice holds weight, they grow into it.
Confidence Grows Through Challenge
Confidence isn’t innate—it’s built. I didn’t win by never failing—I won by pushing through. Let youth lead projects, make decisions, and own outcomes. That’s how trust in themselves is formed—and how empowerment sticks.
Give Them the Tools
Telling kids to speak up isn’t enough—they need to know how. As a skeleton athlete pitching sponsors and speaking to the media, I had to learn fast. Now, I teach what I never had: how to advocate, email, present, and lead. That’s real empowerment.
Representation Changes the Game
Becoming the first Black skeleton Olympian wasn’t just for me—it was for every overlooked dreamer. When youth see someone who looks like them, it sparks possibility. Representation says, “We are here too.”
Let Them Own Their Story
Youth often think their stories aren’t enough. But our stories are our power. Through Frimpong Sportswear and my journey as a skeleton entrepreneur, I’ve seen how truth—not perfection—opens doors. Help them shape their story into something real.
