When I first touched a skeleton sled, I never imagined it would take me to the Olympic stage. It wasn’t just about the thrill of speed or the chill of the ice. It was about discovering my potential. Today, I’m watching a new generation of children discover the same thing, not with high-tech gear or fancy facilities, but with something as simple as a wooden skeleton sled. And trust me, that’s more than enough to ignite a child’s dream.
A Simple Sled with a Big Purpose
Through the Hope Of A Billion initiative, we’ve introduced wooden skeleton sleds to communities that have never seen a bobsled track—let alone a skeleton athlete in action. These handcrafted sleds may not fly down an icy track at 80 mph, but they do something even more powerful: they spark curiosity, build confidence, and plant the seed of possibility.
In places where winter sports are unfamiliar or out of reach, a wooden skeleton becomes more than a toy—it’s a gateway. It turns a dusty field into a racetrack. It turns a hesitant child into a bold explorer. And it shows kids, especially those in underrepresented areas, that their dreams don’t have to wait for the perfect moment, the perfect equipment, or even the perfect location.
Building Confidence Through Movement
When children pull these wooden sleds, you can see how their posture changes. They laugh louder. They challenge each other. They team up. That’s because movement builds momentum, and not just physically. It pushes self-doubt out of the way and invites confidence to take its place.
Many of these kids have never heard of a skeleton athlete before. They’ve never watched a race. But when they see that someone who looks like them, talks like them, and comes from where they come from is succeeding in the sport, the connection is instant. They begin to ask questions. They begin to imagine more for themselves.
More Than Play—Its Purpose
This isn’t just about getting kids active. It’s about laying the foundation for many children’s dreams to grow strong. Wooden skeleton sleds offer a tangible way for youth to interact with sport, teamwork, and perseverance. We’re showing them that greatness isn’t born, that it’s built. Often from the most unlikely places.
We also teach values along the way: teamwork, focus, and respect. These wooden sleds don’t just slide across dirt or gym floors; they carry hope, resilience, and a global vision. Every child who climbs aboard is connected with something bigger: a worldwide movement that says, you belong.

We’re just getting started at Hope Of A Billion. With your help, we can build more wooden sleds, visit more schools, and empower more children to dream big. We’re inviting communities, educators, and supporters everywhere to be part of this mission. We were even mentioned on the official Olympics Instagram page, which is a testament to the incredible impact we’re making!
As Ghana’s first skeleton Olympian, I’ve seen firsthand how a single opportunity can ignite a child’s dream. When you put hope in motion, there’s no limit to what a child can become. A wooden skeleton may seem simple, but to a child, it’s a symbol. A start. A spark. The beginning of something extraordinary.
Let’s build it together.
