3 Secrets to Improve Athletic Performance

Competitive sport is a popular activity in the world, with millions of young athletes trying to make their mark each year. However, only a few hundred reach the heights of success that I have achieved as the first black male Skeleton athlete from Africa. The reason so many athletes fail to realize their true potential is not striving to improve continuously. Without trying to be better each time, I would never have had the opportunity to represent my country at an international level, let alone win more than a dozen medals in various international events!

Contrary to popular misconceptions, improving performance doesn’t have to be complicated. Many athletes give up because they either don’t know where to start or get overwhelmed by the complexities of nutrition, proper supplementation, and sports science.

Here are some easy tips to help you take your performance to the next level without overcomplicating things:

Get the Right Nutrition at The Right Time

Getting the right food is essential for any athlete’s performance. If you want to be a professional athlete and become one of the best, you can’t just eat anything and expect your performance to improve.

A professional athlete’s diet must consist of eating clean foods and various supplements that provide proper nutrition required by the body to achieve optimal performance. This means avoiding all junk foods and sugar, having a healthy protein-rich breakfast, and pre-workout meals that contain carbohydrates for fuel and proteins to prevent catabolism during intense workouts.

Mix Up Your Workouts!

Doing the same workout day in and day out can reduce motivation for many athletes. A good way to keep your interests and look forward to training is by varying the workouts and mixing it up by trying new things. This will not only help strengthen all the muscles in the body but also improve your response time by keeping you on your toes and enhance your mental prowess on the field!

Don’t Forget to Track Your Performance During Training

Measuring and tracking your performance is key to improving it every day. There are plenty of monitoring tools and equipment available in the market that can help you keep track of your performance while working out and training.

By being able to see how well you are doing each day, you will strive harder to push your body further during each session. Keeping a record of your performance each day will also keep you motivated as you see your progress, and before you know it, you’ll be miles ahead of where you started!
