3 Olympic Secrets to Success

If you actually want to make your way to the Olympics or are just looking for ways to be the best at whatever you do, then you need to be dedicated and smart. For those trying to find the best methods to better themselves, here are some secrets to success from an Olympian.

Managing Limits

We’ve all been told to push past our limits and improve in our own respective lines of work. Whether they are an Olympic level athlete, a musician, a business owner, or just someone passionately following their dreams, every person has to push past their limits and improve themselves if they want to be the best.

However, a big part of being successful in your field requires you to know when to take it easy. Hard work pays off, but so does knowing when you need rest. So, while you should consistently aim to improve, you should also manage your limits more smartly.

Plan for Perfection

Nobody is born perfect. In fact, it’s impossible even to achieve perfection in our limited life spans. However, constantly improving and coming as close as possible is the best thing any person can do. The aim for perfection can either be a great motivator or our eventual downfall. It’s important to plan for perfection and go at it with the right mindset.

Adaptive perfectionism helps people recognise their mistakes and constructively improve on them. On the other hand, maladaptive perfectionism forces people to dwell on past mistakes and only aim to surpass themselves and others, but not necessarily improve.

Maintain a Routine

Nothing worth having comes easy. The biggest secret to success as an Olympic athlete is maintaining a schedule and going at it every day of the week. There isn’t any time for distractions when you’re aiming to achieve your long-term goals. Having the discipline to put in the work consistently will help you achieve extraordinary things. Even at the top level, what helps most is sticking to a plan you made and following through until successful!

These are the keys to success for me in life as both an athlete and a motivational speaker. I am Akwasi Frimpong, and I am the first Olympic level athlete from Ghana to perform in the winter skeleton races. I hope to represent and encourage a future generation of young athletes and entrepreneurs from all over Africa. Learn all about it here.
