When I became an Olympic skeleton athlete, I realized my journey could reach people far beyond the ice. My experiences taught me resilience, but they also showed me something important about building a brand. Your story can become a source of inspiration, opportunity, and meaningful business when you share it with purpose.

Turning My Journey Into Black Ice

My journey to the Olympics was never just about racing. It was about overcoming setbacks, believing in myself, and pursuing a dream that once seemed impossible. That’s the story behind Black Ice, the film and comic that bring my experiences to life.

Through storytelling, I can connect with people who may never watch skeleton racing but understand what it means to face challenges. Black Ice gives young people a character and a story they can relate to. It reminds them that their circumstances don’t have to define their future.

For me, building a brand means making your story meaningful to others. You don’t need an Olympic medal to have something worth sharing. Your experiences, lessons, and struggles can become the foundation of a message people remember.

Taking My Message Beyond the Track

Speaking engagements have given me another way to share my journey. When I speak to entrepreneurs, students, and business leaders, I talk about perseverance, preparation, and learning to keep moving when plans change.

As an entrepreneur, I understand that inspiring people is only the beginning. You must also give them something practical they can apply. I want people to leave my talks with renewed confidence and a clearer sense of what they can accomplish.

That’s one of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned about building a brand. People connect with honesty. They remember how your story made them feel and what they learned from it. Whether you’re speaking on stage or meeting someone one-on-one, share your message with authenticity.

Creating Partnerships That Mean Something

Partnerships can help a personal brand grow, but I believe the strongest relationships begin with shared values. When a company believes in your story and your mission, collaboration becomes more than visibility. It becomes an opportunity to create something meaningful together.

My work with Hope Of A Billion, which I founded with my wife, Erica, reflects that belief. We help children in underserved communities across the globe discover their potential through programs that encourage confidence, leadership, and opportunity.

As an entrepreneur, I see building a brand as a responsibility. Your reputation should reflect what you stand for, not just what you achieve. When your story, partnerships, and purpose align, you create something that can grow beyond your original profession.
