I do not see failure as something to avoid; I see it as something that shapes me. Every step of my journey, from being a Dutch-Ghanaian sprinter to becoming a skeleton athlete from Ghana, includes moments where things do not go as planned, and those moments teach me more than any success ever could. For any young entrepreneur, this shift in perspective changes everything.

Early in my journey, I faced limitations that could easily become excuses: I do not have access to winter sports, I do not have a clear pathway, and I do not have the same support systems that others might rely on, yet I keep moving forward, and along the way, I fail many times. Each setback forces me to adjust, rethink, and improve, building not just skill but awareness.

Failure Reveals What Needs to Change

When something works, it feels rewarding, but it does not always show where the gaps are; failure does. It exposes weak points, highlights missed details, and forces honest reflection.

As Ghana’s first skeleton athlete, I face constant setbacks, from training challenges to unfamiliar environments, and each one pushes me to learn faster and pay closer attention to the details that matter. For a young entrepreneur, this is where real growth begins, failure provides clarity, and clarity allows progress.

Shifting the Meaning of Failure

The way I define failure determines how I respond to it. If I see it as the end, I stop; if I see it as information, I keep going. In both sport and business, I treat failure as feedback; every missed opportunity and unexpected outcome gives me something to work with, pushing me to ask better questions and improve my approach. This mindset removes fear and replaces it with curiosity.

Building Resilience Through Experience

Resilience develops through repeated exposure to difficulty, not comfort. As a Ghanaian sprinter and later as a skeleton athlete, I learned how to reset quickly, returning to the work with more focus and a clearer understanding of what needs to change.

That same resilience carries into business, when something does not go as planned, I do not step away, I step back in with a stronger approach.

Turning Setbacks Into Forward Movement

Failure becomes useful when it leads to action; lessons alone are not enough unless they are applied. Each mistake provides direction, each adjustment creates improvement, and over time, those improvements build momentum. Growth takes shape through consistent effort after setbacks, not in perfect conditions.

Why This Matters Beyond Business

This mindset extends beyond entrepreneurship into life itself. Through the Hope Of A Billion Foundation, I work with young people who often face challenges that go far beyond business; many grow up in environments where failure feels final, where one mistake can define how they see themselves.

I work to change that by introducing a different way of thinking, through structured programs and initiatives like the Power of Resilience workshop. I help them step outside their comfort zones, take action, and understand that progress comes from trying, learning, and improving over time. This is what empowering kids looks like in practice, not avoiding failure, but learning how to use it.

A Lesson That Stays With Me

My journey continues to evolve, but one principle stays constant: growth does not come from getting everything right the first time; it comes from staying committed, learning from every experience, and moving forward with a better understanding each time.

Being featured on the Olympics’ official Instagram page highlights how this work is reaching a global audience and creating real impact beyond sport. Through the Hope Of A Billion Foundation, I lead programs that combine mindset training, real-world skills, and exposure to new possibilities, helping young people step outside their comfort zones and take ownership of their future.
