When people hear my story as a skeleton athlete, they often focus on the medals, the speed, and the adrenaline. But the truth is, the victories didn’t come just from training my body. They came from training my mind. What kept me moving forward through setbacks, failures, and uncertainty was developing an entrepreneurial mindset—a way of thinking that taught me how to create opportunities instead of waiting for them.
Here’s what you should know.
Learning to See Beyond Obstacles
Growing up, life didn’t hand me an easy path. Many times, doors were closed before I even reached them. I realized early on that if I kept staring at obstacles, I’d stay stuck. So, I began asking myself different questions: What can I learn from this? How can I turn this challenge into fuel? That simple shift built the foundation of my entrepreneurial mindset. Instead of stopping at rejection, I learned to reframe it as redirection.
Building Habits That Shape Resilience
Habits either push you closer to your dreams or pull you away from them. For me, small daily practices became the backbone of staying resilient. I kept a journal where I wrote down both my wins and my struggles. I trained consistently, even when nobody was watching. And I surrounded myself with people who reminded me of my potential when I couldn’t see it myself. These habits didn’t just make me a better skeleton athlete. They also made me a better dreamer, doer, and problem solver.
Treating Life Like a Start-Up
The track taught me something important: progress rarely moves in a straight line. Some days are breakthroughs, and others feel like setbacks. The same is true when building an idea or chasing a vision. That’s where my entrepreneurial mindset comes into play. I treat every attempt like an experiment. If it fails, I adjust. If it succeeds, I double down. It’s less about perfection and more about persistence.
Staying Hungry for Growth
One of the most powerful lessons I’ve learned is to never get too comfortable. Comfort is the enemy of progress. Whether I’m racing down the ice as a skeleton athlete or chasing my dreams off the track, I remind myself that growth requires risk. I say yes to opportunities that scare me a little, because fear usually signals that I’m stepping into new territory. That hunger to grow is what keeps me moving forward, no matter the circumstances.

As Ghana’s first skeleton Olympian and an entrepreneur, my goal is to help others cultivate the same entrepreneurial mindset that drives me.
However, it’s not just about me; it’s about empowering the next generation of scientists, entrepreneurs, and skeleton athletes. That’s why I founded Hope Of A Billion, an organization dedicated to helping underserved kids worldwide. I’m truly honored that our work has been featured on the official Olympics Instagram page, right next to legends like Simone Biles and Usain Bolt.
