Growing up in a one-room home in Ghana with no running water, no electricity, and limited access to education, I know what it feels like to be overlooked. I know the sting of having big dreams but no clear way to reach them. That’s why I’ve made it my mission to create opportunities for underserved kids, to be the person I once needed. That’s why I founded Hope Of A Billion
Now, as a skeleton athlete from Ghana and an Olympian, I carry those experiences with me. Every time I fly down that icy track, I think about the kids watching from the sidelines, wondering if someone like them could ever make it. The answer is yes, but only if we help build the path.
Be Present. One Kid at a Time.
The most powerful way to spark hope is to simply show up. Not with grand speeches or flashy donations, but with time. Mentoring is one of the most direct ways to start creating opportunities for underserved kids. You don’t have to be perfect; you just have to care.
When I talk to young athletes in Ghana, I see how much it matters for them to feel seen and heard. I tell them, Your story matters. Your dreams matter. And yes, someone who looks like you can make it. That message, repeated over and over, can shift how a kid sees their future.
Help Them Start, Even Small
You don’t need a million-dollar foundation to make a difference. Supporting grassroots programs means listening to what the community actually needs, and then acting on it.
As a skeleton athlete from Ghana, I didn’t even know what the sport was until much later in life. What if kids in underserved communities had access to sports beyond just football? What if they could try track, skating, or even skeleton? It’s why at Hope Of A Billion, we open the doors for underserved kids to try different sports. Exposure creates imagination. Imagination builds belief.
Put Your Money Where Their Future Is
If you can give, do it. Fund a scholarship. Buy equipment. Sponsor a local youth program. You can also donate to us at Hope Of A Billion. Money isn’t everything, but for kids who don’t have much, it can mean the difference between dropping out and discovering a passion. Creating opportunities for underserved kids means removing financial roadblocks where you can.
Not everyone can become an Olympic skeleton athlete. But we can all help a kid believe in themselves. Whether through mentoring, donating, or just listening, we each hold a piece of the ladder that helps someone else climb.
My journey as a professional skeleton athlete from Ghana taught me that hope can be a powerful force. It’s what I want to give to a billion young people across the globe. That’s why my wife and I started the Hope Of A Billion foundation, to create opportunities for underserved kids through sports, business, and education. We believe every child, no matter their circumstances, deserves a chance to chase their dreams.
The work we do is only possible because of people like you. I would be incredibly honored for you to join us. Let’s make an impact together. If you want to see what others are saying about our mission, you can see what the official Olympics Instagram page has shared about our work.
We can’t do this alone, so please consider making a donation to support the next generation of leaders.
I also invite you to follow along on our journey as we work to empower a billion lives.
